Welcome to my family history blog. Finding more about my family's history is very rewarding as well as being interesting and educational.
I created this blog to share my thoughts, experiences, tips and resources in my search for my ancestors' history and maybe, help you in your research as well. I am particularly interested in the history of Upper Canada and the Loyalist period in history.

Sarah's Bones

There have been several skeletons unearthed in the name of progress that are of particular interest to my Haines family research, they are likely my loyalist ancestors' families. As of the 31st of August, there were four adult and three childrens'skeletons dating from the late 1700's and early 1800's found on land once owned by Sarah Haines Bland Otway-Page at Point Albino, near Fort Erie, Ontario. I posted the family sketch written by her son, Peregrine Otway-Page previously which states where she was buried.

This is indeed a great discovery for our family, so many of the loyalists burial sites remain a mystery, forgotten, any markers long gone. We are very fortunate to have located Sarah's family. I am hoping that with further investigation the skeletons will be identified by their age, sex and how long they were buried and maybe positively identify them through DNA.

When the time comes to re-interr the remains I would love to attend the ceremony. How often does an opportunity like this come up, being able to attend your ancestors' funeral?
